Education Above All Foundation Marks International Day to Protect Education from Attack

On the occasion of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation has renewed its global call to safeguard education systems, students, and educators in conflict-affected regions, highlighting education as a fundamental human right that must never be targeted.

Observed annually, the day draws international attention to the growing number of attacks on schools, universities, teachers, and learners worldwide. According to global education monitoring agencies, millions of children continue to face disrupted learning due to armed conflict, political instability, and violence — a reality that threatens long-term peace and development.

The Education Above All Foundation, a Qatar-based global foundation, emphasized that attacks on education are not only violations of international humanitarian law but also deliberate attempts to undermine future generations. In its message, the foundation stressed that protecting education is essential to building resilient societies and preventing cycles of poverty and extremism.

“Education must remain a safe space, even in times of conflict,” the foundation noted, urging governments, international organizations, and civil society to strengthen protective measures for educational institutions. EAA reiterated its commitment to working with global partners to ensure continued access to quality education for children and youth affected by emergencies.

Over the years, Education Above All has supported education initiatives in some of the world’s most fragile regions, focusing on access, equity, and continuity of learning. Through advocacy, policy engagement, and on-ground programs, the foundation has played a key role in bringing education to communities impacted by war, displacement, and humanitarian crises.

Experts warn that attacks on education have long-term consequences, including increased dropout rates, child labor, early marriages, and lost economic opportunities. Protecting schools and learners, they say, is critical to achieving global education goals and sustainable development targets.

As the world marks this important day, Education Above All called for stronger international accountability, increased funding for education in emergencies, and collective action to ensure that classrooms remain places of learning, not conflict.

The foundation concluded by reaffirming that protecting education today is an investment in peace, stability, and opportunity for future generations.
