Kerala is set to launch a statewide knowledge and history initiative titled “Vijnana Yatra – Chief Minister’s Mega Quiz” beginning on January 12, 2026, designed to engage students in learning about the state’s rich social history, renaissance movements, and developmental achievements. Approximately five lakh students are expected to participate in this educational event spread across multiple levels.
Organised by the Information Public Relations Department (IPRD) in collaboration with the General and Higher Education Departments, the quiz targets students from Classes 8 to 12 and college/university levels. The competition’s structure features multiple rounds — beginning at school–level and progressing through educational district, revenue district, and state–level competitions — ensuring widespread participation from across the state.
The quiz aims to instil social awareness and deepen students’ understanding of Kerala’s heritage, including its pivotal role in historical reform movements and modern achievements. Officials highlight that promoting such knowledge can encourage a sense of pride and cultural connection among young learners.
Attractive cash prizes and honours are on offer in different categories. In the school division, the first–place winner will receive ₹5 lakh, with the second and third–place winners receiving ₹3 lakh and ₹2 lakh, respectively. In the college and university category, the first–place prize is ₹3 lakh, followed by ₹2 lakh and ₹1 lakh for the next two positions. In addition to prize money, winners will receive mementos and merit certificates, while every participant will be issued an online participation certificate to recognise their involvement.
What sets this initiative apart is its interactive design: from the district–level stage onward, audiences will also be engaged, with rewards offered for correct responses from spectators. This approach is expected to make the quiz not just a competition, but a festival of learning that draws communities together.
State education officials and quiz organisers are optimistic that the Vijnana Yatra Mega Quiz will become a flagship educational event, inspiring students to explore history, celebrate knowledge, and connect with Kerala’s rich legacy.
